Windows Vista is not just an upgraded version of Windows XP and as many of you will notice, a lot of Windows XP/previous software will be incompatible with Vista. And instead of going through each different piece of software or application, installing then testing to see if it will work correctly theres a Software Compatibility List Wiki you can check out. As far as I can tell it’s a pretty comprehensive list and because it’s a wiki it will continue to be updated and you can also add to the list yourself.
I’m sure most of you know that every version of Windows Vista except for Enterprise has a 30-day trial/evaluation period. This 30-day grace period is fully functional and does not require a license, serial key, or activation. However, if the trial ends and Vista has not been activated it will lock itself into Reduced Functionality Mode. Now of course there are still ways to use your now crippled O/S but for most people it will be too much of a hassle to put up with.
So whats the solution?
Simply rearm the activation grace period before the existing period ends.
You can even rearm the grace period up to 3 times! Which equates to around 120 days of full usability without activating!
