PDF Hack – Crack Password Protected PDF’s

There are many perfectly legitimate reasons for cracking a password protected PDF. Maybe your old friend helped you create an official document in PDF form protected with a password a long time ago and you forgot the password. And maybe your old friend isn’t exactly a friend anymore. If your in this kind of scenario here’s what you can do.

First try opening the PDF file in an application such as Adobe Reader 8 or Foxit Reader. If you can open the file but are unable to print or copy the text from the file you can always go for the screenshot + photoshop method. Or look at our previous PDF Hack for more ideas.

Now if the PDF file is protected at the write level you will probably need to use Elcomsoft’s Advanced PDF Password Recovery program or PDF Password Remover. However, even using this software, cracking the PDF password may take a long time…
