If you’ve ever come across a site where you have to pay, register, or do both but didn’t want to theres a nifty site called BugMeNot that has an archive of user accounts which can be pretty handy. But if you can’t find login details for a particular site such as a membership required forum then there is another way. This hack is most efficient when you find a Google search result that requires membership.
This hack will require the Firefox browser and an add-on called User Agent Switcher.
If you don’t already have Firefox then d/l it before installing the add-on.
- After you’ve got the User Agent Switcher add-on installed and ready to go click on Tools > User Agent Switcher > Options.
- Now click on User Agents on the left hand pane and then select Add.
- It should bring up a pop-up window with a form. For Description type something like Google Bot.
- And under the User Agent field copy and paste: Googlebot/2.1 (http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)
- Hit OK
- Now if you go to Tools > User Agent Switcher you should see Google Bot as an option. Click on it.
- Go surf to the pay/registration required site and see if you can get access.
